LEAD & CADMIUM FOUND IN CHOCOLATE – Is it in your favorite brand? Check here!
A little concerned since everyone including my kids eat chocolates once in a while, I clicked the link.
I was very alarmed to see that brands that we trust and shop at everyday like Trader Joe’s and Whole foods etc. were also on the list.
( excerpt from the article ~Trader Joe’s, Hershey’s, Green and Black’s, Lindt, Whole Foods, Kroger, Godiva, See’s Candies, Mars, Theo Chocolate, Equal Exchange, Ghirardelli, Earth Circle Organics, and more, for failure to warn of lead and/or cadmium in their chocolate products. “Lead exposure is associated with neurological impairment, such as learning disabilities and decreased IQ, even at very low levels. In fact, there is no safe level of lead for children,” said Eleanne van Vliet, MPH, As You Sow’s Environmental Health Consultant. )
As I read this article I was also wondering if this is fake news. There are hundreds of websites that are coming up everyday to make money from ad revenues, posing to give expert information about anything under the sun.
But the fb friend confirmed that she researched this information and the report was from a legit 25 year old non-profit http://www.asyousow.org/.
Not only did it bring attention to the lead and cadmium contamination, which hopefully we can all share with our friends and family to make more informed purchases; but it also brought attention to the “Sugar and Drug syndrome” in the modern life. More and more hidden refined sugar is consumed in drinks, foods, seemingly vegetarian diets devoid of vegetables; by a large population everyday.
Referring here to the highly acclaimed book on Healing with Whole Foods by Paul Pitchford ~
The refined sugars pass quickly through the bloodstream in large amounts giving a shock to the pancreas and stomach. They cause acidity which quickly depletes body of minerals. The loss of calcium causes bone problems. Digestive system becomes weak and food cannot be digested or absorbed. Leading to a blood-sugar imbalance and a vicious cycle of more sugar cravings. Leading to obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, anemia and the list goes on. It weakens the mind causing memory loss and concentration, anxiety, violence, excessive talking, irritability and arguments.
Paul Pitchford states that he has personally observed that those who fail to accept responsibility in life or difficult challenges, usually consume an excess of sweet food, which keeps them in a vicious cycle of causing obstructions in body and mind that leads to use of medicines, intoxicants and pain relieving drugs.
Here is the link, that compelled me to write this post. 😀
